Time, Class Titles, Descriptions, and Instructors (subject to change)

Monday, April 6

8-9:45AM/Exploring the Differences Between AutoCAD and IntelliCAD/Jennifer DiBona -- This class will cover many of the current differences (and some similarities) between AutoCAD and IntelliCAD. Some areas we will explore are differences in customization, menus & toolbars and commands, options & settings.

10:15AM-Noon/GIS Desktop/Gary Rosen -- The Carlson Civil Suite includes a robust GIS program with a wide range of capabilities, and this class looks at that part of the office software and shows what it can do and how to use it. Importing and Exporting Shape files, attaching drawing objects to external databases, Inserting Blocks with attribute data at locations specified in a coordinate file, using the GIS Inspector and even Polylgon Overlay Analysis, this class covers many of the awesome tools in Carlson GIS.

1-2:45PM/PointClouds/Bruce Carlson/CEU Credit -- The new Carlson PointCloud software is presented as it applies to 3D modeling and visualization of mine sites, rural terrains and as-built developed sites. We cover scan importing, registration of multiple scans, techniques of viewing in 3D, decimation and filtering. The auto-creation of break lines is demonstrated, as well as pulling standard Carlson profiles and generating contours. A special field-to-finish drafting technique whereby points are picked on the 3D scan image leading to layerized linework drafting is shown.

3:15-5PM/Simplicity 'Sight' Survey 2009/Mark Floan -- See how Simplicity's "Sight" Survey 2009 interfaces directly with MicroStation, AutoCAD and IntelliCAD.  We will (for all platforms) highlight a complete field-to-finish solution, contouring with volumes and surface construction, legal description preparation, and other coordinate geometry tools.

Tuesday, April 7

8-9:45AM/CAD Standards with AutoCAD and IntelliCAD/Jennifer DiBona, Ladd Nelson -- This class will cover many of the features and issues faced by CAD Managers when deploying Carlson Software on top of an AutoCAD or IntelliCAD platform. Some items to be covered are: Carlson Standard folders & files, template drawings, establishing layering standards, customization and block libraries.

10:15AM-Noon/Carlson CAD Utilities/Ken Crawford -- In this class we will look at dozens of awesome utilities found in the Carlson office software programs that are designed to shortcut simple tasks and make you more productive and efficient in all of the day-to-day CADD challenges you face. Some of these tools are very simple, designed to solve a specific problem, some provide a much more wide-spread set of tools, and we will look at many examples of both. From Drawing Cleanup to Edit-Assign Polyline Elevations, from Extend by Distance to Import-Export LandXML, "this is the good stuff", the fun and powerful tools that you will use everyday.

1-2:45PM/CG Survey/Larry Phipps, Land Surveyor’s Workshop -- This class is for the C&G User to make the transition to having C&G incorporated into Carlson Survey. Carlson Software, which will continue to support the C&G program, will combine the best of the commands from these two respected software applications and thus providing a better and more complete survey package. Surveyors will have a variety of tools and the versatility to switch between menus, giving them added flexibility to complete a project. We will discuss these phases of implantation of C&G software along with a mixture of 3 or 4 routines into a demonstration that items available currently in both products:1. 3D Visualization Tool; 2. Visual Map Check & Draw Map Check; 3. Auto Create Points; 4. Shrinkwrap and Area Label.

3:15-5PM/Carlson Business Suite/Lloyd Ketchum -- Carlson Business Suite (CBS) is a Complete Business Management Solution designed to allow business owners and managers to make fully informed decisions using real-time information about every aspect of their businesses and operations. Carlson Business Suite (CBS) is specifically designed around the business, financial, and operational needs of professional engineers, surveyors, architects, and land development managers. Course attendees will see and learn how business intelligence is productized and presented in visual forms that are interactive and learn how to apply information in the decision-making process and view the results of their decisions in real-time. Attendees will also learn how to leverage the power of their own information and how to use it to make better decisions that result in more profitable companies.

A grid with the complete class schedule is now available. NOTE: Classes offering IACET-sanctioned CEUs are listed. It is recommended that, due to differing state requirements, each attendant check with his or her state organization to determine its CEU acceptance/regulations. If you have a specific request for a class subject, please email conference@carlsonsw.com and your request will be considered.
